Making A Non-Newtonian Substance

  • Making A Non-Newtonian Substance

Purpose: Our aim for this experiment is to see which state of matter oobleck is and to define the science
behind it.

Materials: Water, corn starch (or corn flour), bowl, spoon and a flat surface.

Steps:
  1. Pour the amount of corn starch you want into the bowl.
  2. Then obtain your water and put the water in the bowl.
  3. Get your spoon and start stirring up your mixture.
  4. You will start seeing the substance come together. As you start seeing the illusions, try getting the
perfect fusion.

Results: When we did the experiment, I saw the oobleck concluding together and clumping up to form.
It felt so weird because when I was holding the mixture tightly it was solid but when I let it go, it was
liquid. I was so surprised! The oobleck was so confusing and shocking.

Conclusion: Want to know the science behind all of this? The reason why this experiment worked is all
because of the two matters that are made out of particles, which are liquids and solids. In solids perspective,
the particles are very close to each other. The solid’s particles are very strong and their force is
unbreakable. But in liquids state, their particles are further apart from each other than solids particles,
due to the liquids weaker strength.
