Christmas Card

Since Xmas was coming up, we decided to make Christmas cards. To make the Christmas tree, we had to make a paper plane, then decorate it. We used glitter and paint to make it more shiny!

Making Fairy Bread With Room 1 (Our buddy clas)

Today in room 10, we had made fairy bread with room 1. Me and Jane were buddies with Liliana! Firstly we all got a diagonally sliced bread each and dipped it into green/yellow icing. The icing was made out of icing sugar, water and food coloring. Then we decorated them with sprinkles and marshmallows. I added heart shaped sprinkles on the sides and put marshmallows in the middle. Soon after, we all took a picture with our fairy bread! It was really delicious but a bit too sweet.

Christmas Ornaments!

In room 10, we decided to make Xmas ornaments since Christmas was coming up. Firstly, we made this dough mixture by using salt, flour and water! Then we putted in the oven for 90 celcius for 3 hours! Soon after, we started to paint them. I made a candy cane and a present. I am really proud of the outcome of my ornaments. I hope you all have an amazing Christmas and get spoiled with love and gifts!

Term 4, Room 10's Assembly!

Today, room 10 had their second assembly of the year. I was so nervous and scared. When people started coming into the hall, my heart started beating fast. For the assembly, I had to talk about Buddha's life, shared a chick animation and showed them my artwork of a chick and Buddha.

Two things that went well:
We all showed confidence and our voices were very loud! All of us read very clearly.

Some thing we could work on is... not speaking too fast. Since a lot of us were scared, we were talking very fast and it was hard to understand. I think next year, we should read in a normal speed and very clear.

Real Or Fake? - Wint & Sheila

In cybersmart, we have been learning about the things that are fake and real online. On the internet, people are really good at tricking others and making their viewers believe in something! I think that this is a very bad thing to do but if it's for a fun reason, then it's fine...

Diyas!

In class, we have be learning about Diwali! Diwali is an annual celebration that is celebrated by four religions. We wanted to show our appreciation to Diwali and made diyas. Here is some pictures of mine. First we had to make the substance. We used flour, salt and water. After that, we put it in the oven. A few hours later, we painted it all white. Then we waited for it to dry. Finally it was dried, so we started to paint it. We did some patterns and designs. Later, on we added some sequins and glitter paint.

This infographic is all about the features and circumstances that comes along with being online. A smart learner should never give out their personal information to others and not open emails from people you don't know.

In cybersmart, we played a game called safe land! It was about a hacker that was putting virus on everyone's computers, so you have to help broadband (superhero) to help save people online.

T, W, M Blog Comment Replies

In cyber smart, we had to create a slide with our opinions and versions of people's comments. The reason we did this is because to see if the comments were appropriate and made sense. For example, there were some nonsense comments that didn't mean anything to the blog post, so we decided to share our feelings about it

My Crazy Pet

100 Word Story

Have you ever wondered what it's like to get a new pet without knowing the circumstances that comes with it?

My first reaction of my new pet was that it’s a fierce-looking tabby cat… Well that's what I thought. A few years passed and I have noticed that my cat has grown a lot bigger. One day, I saw my cat admiring the program on the tv. It was showing a documentary about animals. That was when I realized that my cat was not a cat! I decided to risk my life and came closer… Then I remembered that my pet wouldn’t hurt me.

So the next day, my pet was taken away and everyone shed tears. Now I don’t know where my pet is, but all I have to say is “I have the eye of the tiger!”

Harry Potter Chapter 2 Summary

100 Word Story // Petrified

I dash around the abandoned corridor hoping that he won’t find me. My mouth shut silent and my shimmery eyes suddenly stared into darkness. He kept mumbling his death-threatening words, “come out, I won’t hurt you, I just want to play!” I wiped the sweat off my forehead and my face started burning up. What will happen to me next? Will I die? I heard a man's voice reaching out to me. I blinked a couple times, just enough to snap back into reality. “Ahm get out the halloween store, we’re closing” Oops maybe I was over exaggerating…

Beginner's Talk About Puberty!

Beginner's Talk About Puberty!

Have you ever heard of the word puberty? Well basically puberty is when boys and girls at the
age of 8 or 9 starts having changes in their body. The hormones is what starts everything and
sends a signal to your body when you begin puberty. The pituitary gland controls your puberty
and moods.

Now let’s talk about the girl’s body first! Girls start and end puberty at the age of 8-16! When
a girl goes through puberty, she gets something called a period (menstruation). A period is when
the blood from the vagina comes out and starts pouring. This happens because the ovaries that
are surrounded by blood, pushes the blood through the fallopian tube and out it comes. Want to
know a fact about your eggs? Well it is a known fact that eggs are the biggest cell in the human
body! Eggs are also the reason how girls get pregnant. When the egg meets the sperm, it
combines together and forms a baby in the girl’s uterus. If you’re between the ages of 45-55
it’s most likely you won’t have your period anymore. This is called ‘menopause’ and it is
scientifically said that you wouldn’t be able to give birth around these ages.

Boys regularly start at the age of 9-16. The boy’s vocal chords starts making their voice deeper.
The testicles starts producing sperm and then it keeps on making sperm for the rest of his life.
Boys and girls get a growth spurt and that is when you start getting taller, faster and faster.
Something that both genders get is B.O (body odour). When you play sports or get really sweaty,
a nasty smell starts coming through your body and people’s noses. A boy sometimes get erections.
Erections are when the boy’s private part fills up with blood and then it starts coming up. If you
see this happening, don’t start laughing because boys can’t control it. Boys and girls also get
pubic hair. This is when they get hair around their body!

Do you want to know some ways on how to take care of yourself during puberty? Well here
are some ways! Always try to have 8-10 hours of sleep and make sure to eat healthy food than
junk food. Exercise 60 minutes a day. Shower daily and use deodorant. Have 8 glasses of water
each day. Don’t start shaving early or else your hair will come back faster and thicker.
When you’re going through puberty, you’ll probably see pimples and acne on your face, so
try not putting germs on your face and touching it often.

Puberty will be a hard stage through your life but if you’re feeling uncomfortable or worried,
just ask your family or friends what’s been going on.

The Lion King Drawing

The Lion King!

A Cinema Experience

Have you seen the new Lion King movie? Well since it was the school break, my friend and family
took a ride down to the cinema and watched the movie.

It all started on one boring day… My mum realized that me and my siblings had nothing to do. So
she decided to tell our dad to take us and Tracey to the movies. When we arrived, we had to get our
tickets and treats sorted out. After everything was cleared, we went into the cinema and a feeling
of excitement rushed into my heart. As I looked at my siblings and Tracey, I could tell that they were
thrilled too. Finally, the ads were done and the movie was about to start.

The movie started off, with the welcoming of the newborn cub “Simba” I think that this story line has a
great moral because it’s telling people to not be ashamed of their mistakes and past. I would’ve liked
seeing more clips of how Simba was getting raised but the outcome of the movie was really good and
to be honest, I enjoyed it a lot. The movie editors did an amazing job because I felt like that the animals
were really talking! As we left our seats, we took a few pictures and ended the night with some churros
in our tummy.

Taking a trip to the cinema was a great adventure for me! I enjoyed the movie and even though the
beginning of the movie was a bit boring, I still had a wonderful experience! “Would you ever go watch
The Lion King?”

Student Led Conference! Term 3 And Science Fair

On 25 July 2019, I went to the student led conference with my mum. I showed my mum all the science fair items that room 10 had made. My project was about "how do we taste" my group and I made a diagram of a human body with all the features of how we taste. I read my writing to my mum and I think she liked it. I also showed her what levels I am on and what my goals are. Something, I really want to learn is to know all my time tables up to 12. Since I'm not as quite as good at reading within my other levels, I think I should read a couple books at home everyday, so that I can improve.

Smart Relationships!

A smart relationship to me means looking up to the person I befriend. I think the definition of a smart relationship means choosing your friends wisely and hanging out with someone who has a friendly reputation. I would like to have a relationship with someone who encourages me instead of putting me down. When we watched a video about smart relationships at cyber smart, it taught me how to have a balance of good friends on the internet and in real life. The qualities I look for is... honesty, respectful, loyal, trusting, inclusive and funny!

The Animal In Me

The Animal In Me

There is a creature inside of me,
It swifts and scratches at the door of my mind
It’s sly when they see their prey
It screams when it’s feeling vicious

There is an animal inside of me,
It howls at the walls of my heart
It keeps trying to attack
When I am alone, the beast inside of me will feel
lonely and fed up

There is an animal inside me,
When I am with my friends it tries to pounce around
I am a fox
It is like a werewolf fighting to get out
It tricks you and sobs

There is an animal inside me,
Its body is covered with fur
Its eyes are shimmery
It just won’t leave me alone,
Will I ever be free of this animal in me?

How Do We Taste?

How Do We Taste?

Have you ever wondered how you could only smell or taste certain types of food when you have a cold?
Well today, I will be explaining to you how you savour all the goodness from foods.

The first introduction in this journey is the papilla! The papilla is the little red dots on top of your tongue.
Surrounding the papilla are these mini hair things called microvilli that help you taste. It has been
scientifically known that kids have approximately twice as much 10,000 papillae. When you grow older
into an adult, you have about 5000 papillae since the papillae dies out which then makes you taste less
stuff as kids. Next, is the odor molecules. The odor molecules are a type of particle that goes to into your
olfactory receptors, specifically so that you can smell the food. While we are on the subject of
olfactory receptors, let’s end this paragraph about what olfactory receptors are! Basically their job is to
help the nose smell the food so that you would be able to taste all the deliciousness from the food. The
olfactory receptors also sends a signal to your brain whenever you're about to eat something bad.

Ever noticed that you can’t really taste food when you have a cold? If you are really curious for the
answer, well you came to the right explanation! The whole reason why this happens is because the
snot that's stuck in your nose blocks the odor molecules from coming through. That is why it is
much harder for your taste buds to recognize what you are eating.

We all now know that those little things on our tongue are called papillae and that kids have twice
the amount of papillae than adults. But the only thing that is really important is for you to stop going
out in the rain and getting a cold because then your olfactory receptors would have a few days off
their job! Anyways, since my aim for this writing piece was to explain how we taste, I hope you have
finally figured out the answer and learned some interesting facts about your tongue. Image result for tongue and olfactory receptors diagramRelated image

Discovering Electricity Diagram!

Discovering Electricity!

  • Discovering Electricity!

Did you know that you have a little bit of electricity inside of you? Well today I will
be telling you all about how electricity works, what transformers are and how to stay
safe around electricity!

Firstly, I will be stating some facts about electricity. Have you ever heard of the word
arcing? Basically, arcing means when electricity travels through air. When your in a
situation where something goes wrong with the powerline, you must stay 10 meters
away or else you will get a big, great electricity shock. But the reason why you can’t
go too close to the powerline is because your body is 70% made out of water. In bird’s
case, they don’t get shocked by the wires since birds do not touch the ground and the
wire goes down to the earth. To help clasp the powerlines, there is a rubber, glass and
ceramic holder called insulator.

Now let’s discuss about transformers! If you don’t know what a transformer is,
try remembering a time where you have seen a green box outside with a danger
sign on it. Well those things are very powerful since they have 11,000 volts in them.
The transformer’s job is to help turn those 11,000 volts into 300 volts, so that houses
can use it.

Since we’re on our last topic, I will be telling you how to stay safe around electricity!
The powerlines in your streets, sometimes can get damaged by storms, trees and cars
occuring car crashes. This happens very often, so for your own safety, stay far away
from the wires and warn others. Do you have cords in your house that are broken?
If you do, throw them away since those plugs could possibly blow up at any time if
you’re still using it. Also don’t ever mix electricity with water because when you put
those two conductors together, there is a high chance that you could get hurt. By the
way, never put anything inside your toaster.

From Esthra, I have learnt so many new ways of keeping myself safe from electricity
and knowing why electricity is so important. Now that we have ended our lesson,
I hope you start keeping yourself safe from electricity!
